Definition

The lacunar pattern is characterized by several to numerous, smooth-bordered, round to oval, variously sized structures called red lacunas. The morphologic hallmark of these lacunar structures is their striking reddish, blue-purplish or black coloration.

Diagnostic significance

The lacunar pattern is a common finding in hemangiomas and angiokeratomas allowing dermoscopic diagnosis at a glance.
