This melanoma is characterized by numerous irregular streaks (arrows) throughout the lesion

Note several irregular streaks (arrows) at the upper left part of this melanoma

This melanoma is characterized by streaks (arrows) unevenly distributed along the periphery

The radial arrangement of streaks along the periphery of this lesion is virtually diagnostic for Reed nevus

Streaks are presumably formed by a particular three-dimensional arrangement of heavily pigmented nests of melanocytes (circle) as exhibited in this melanoma. Three-dimensional reconstructions, however, would be necessary in order to confirm this assumption. The dermoscopic-pathologic correlation is aggravated by the fact that dermoscopic features and their underlying histopathologic structures are present in two different planes, namely, the horizontal and vertical ones
